Within the project “Church and NGOs for environmental education in the national parks”, implemented by the Institute of Environmental and Religious Studies (headed by Alexander Bokotey) in cooperation with the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International) and supported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt) (project coordinator Ivan Tymofeiev) employee of the nature sector of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Studies named after T. Lehotsky – Ruslana Jahman together with researchers of the National Park “Uzhansky” (Trilateral Reserve “Eastern Carpathians”) held an interesting environmental education event for young students in the beautiful Velykobereznyansky Park. The participants of the event were students of the 6th grade of Velykobereznyansky Lyceum.
In order to study the avifauna of the region, the trainers conducted a meaningful lesson with elements of the game on the theme “Birds of the native land: we study, observe, protect.”
Ruslana Jahman told the students about the birds that students can most often meet near their home, school, or park. In particular, about the house and Eurasian tree sparrow, the black redstart, the tit: big, blue, black and long-tailed, the blackbird, common wood pigeon, etc. The children learned many interesting facts about them and learned how to distinguish them in nature. In the park, they had the opportunity to watch the nuthatch, jay, and tits. During the tour, they also talked about how a person can help birds. The lecturer recalled about the correct feeding in winter and about the birdhouses. Employees of the park told the children about the history of the park-arboretum in the center of V. Berezny. It was founded in 1866 and here grows more than 200 trees of valuable species. The park now has the status of a monument of landscape art of local significance, which was granted to it in 1969. Scientists of the park also briefly told about the goals and significance of Uzhansky National Nature Park and about the birds that inhabit our forests.
There was an interesting quest which was a zest of the lecture! Lyceum students enthusiastically approached the solution of the tasks and successfully completed the competition!
The event was part of the project “Church and NGOs for environmental education in national parks”, implemented by the Institute for Environmental and Religious Studies in cooperation with the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband, NABU International) and supported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt, AA), whose manager is Ivan Tymofeiev.
