An ecological and educational workshop on making soap was organized at the Greek Catholic parish of the Ascension of the Lord in Mala and Velyka Roztoka village. Students and teachers from the Velykoroztitska primary school made soap out of natural materials with the help of Natalia Stetso, an educator and active volunteer on the MGCE’s Ecological Commission.

The soap was designed in the shapes of insects and spring flowers to mark the arrival of spring. They were filled with a special organic soap base containing natural colours and essential oils. Dried flowers were also put to the items to enhance their beauty and increase their skin-benefitting properties.

The class participants not only learned how to make ecological soap, but they also discussed the importance of nature preservation in the spring. The teachers described to children the challenges of overwintering these little animals, and the children remembered the insects they had seen in the summer.

The event took place within the framework of the cooperation of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies- IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the Nature Conservation Union of Germany (NABU BundesverbandNABU International), project coordinators –  Ivan Tymofeiev (NABU),  and financially supported by VGP Foundation.
