Today, October 7, the first session of the Council for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources (Ukraine) was held to discuss important environmental issues and determine further work plans of the Council for Cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources (Ukraine). It should be noted that on July 15, 2021, Minister Roman Abramovsky and Chairman of the UCCRO, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (https://mepr.gov.ua/news/38199.html) which became the basis for the establishment of a Public Council on cooperation issues with the UCCRO under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The Ecological Commission of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine was represented by Oleksandr Bokotey at the first session of the Council.
The Head of the Ministry proposed to divide the future work of the Council into sections: climate protection, waste management, sustainable management of water and forest resources, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem protection.
Roman Abramovsky informed about the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources within the framework of the President’s program “Green Country” to join forces with the “Tabletochky” Foundation so that anyone who wants to join planting trees can also help children in the fight against cancer. It was also pointed out about the non-admission of using artificial flowers and wreaths, which are made from cheap and not always safe materials, such as polyester, latex, organza.
At the same time, the campaign “Pure Heart – Clean City” was mentioned, which takes place in some cities of the region, which helps to reduce the amount of garbage. During the meeting, the Minister drew attention to waste management in Transcarpathia. Sustainable development in terms of environmental and economic dimensions and the involvement of young people in environmental protection were also discussed. The Ecological Commission of the Roman Catholic Church welcomes the establishment of the Public Council and hopes for further fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine on the implementation of important environmental projects.
