On March 18, an ecological event “Carpathian wildlife” took place at the Mukachevo Local Children’s Library. The event was attended by children of different ages of IDPs.
All children, together with Iryna Shyshkina, an expert with the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF), recalled wild and domestic animals not only in Ukrainian or Russian but were able to name animals in English and German. All participants could further deepen their knowledge of the wildlife of the Carpathians. There was also a competition where children expressed themselves by drawing their own national parks and their inhabitants, at the end of which they received gifts such as a coloring book “Carpathian forest is your friend” and pencils.
Finally, the children watched a cartoon about nature conservation, feasted on sweets, cookies, and enjoyed dancing, where they did an impression of nature; such as a tree or a bird. All participants were active and were satisfied with such an event, where they were able to distract themselves from the war in Ukraine.
We’d like to thank Mukachevo Local Library, especially Olena Derd (Deputy Director of Library), who not only warmly welcomed all the children, but also took a tour of the library, told the rules of using the library, and paid special attention to books on environmental issues. We’d like also to thank Mukachevo State University and the head of the volunteer movement – Vyacheslav Shutko.
The event was held within the framework of the project “Responsibility for Creation and Women of the Carpathians”, implemented by the Interreligious and Civil Environmental Forum of Eastern Europe (IRCEF) in cooperation with environmental groups of the Churches with the support of the Archdiocese of Bamberg (Germany).
